Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Maniacs Website

For the past five years I've had the pleasure of operating Morgan's Maniacs, first as a page on Wetpaint, and then as an independant website. It's been a blast; fun, and giddy, moving and sometimes exasperating. I've met some people that I now count as dear and fast friends. But now it's time to move on.

I've started a small business that's taking up more and more of my time and energy and so, reluctantly, I'm saying so long.

It's been a privilidge to get to know some of you a little better, and Thank You for visiting.

Jeff joins Red Dawn

Seems like our Jeff is a busy guy these days. He shot The Resident in the spring and is filming The Losers in Puerto Rico. Now, Jeff has confirmed he'll be taking a role in the remake of the 1984 movie Red Dawn, due to start shooting soon in Detroit, MI. Look for the movie in theaters in September 2010.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Taking Woodstock

According to this article http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7016065649?Ang%20Lee%27s
Taking Woodstock is premiering this month, finally and at LAST! The date has been changed from August 14th to August 28th.

For those folks who are JDM fans, I'm told Jeff's role is a pretty small one.

The New Mexican

Actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan was out and about in Santa Fe again. This time around, Morgan was shopping at Doodlet's last Sunday after a brunch at the very popular CafĂ© Pasqual's. He purchased a skull and crossbones decanter with matching glasses. Interestingly, Morgan was confused with Robert Downey Jr. by folks in the store — an understandable mix-up if you look at their photos, and makes La Mitotera wonder if Morgan, not Downey, was the star spotted recently shopping at Jackalope. Hmmm ...

Shanghai delayed again

Shanghai's release date is reportedly pushed back again. This time to October. I just saw the following message in IMDb, on the Shanghai board. There was no link.

New York Post

Shanghai Delayed Again
Posted by Lou Lumenick on June 10

The Weinstein Co. has reportedly abandoned its demented plan to for Mikael Hafstrom's pricey World War II epic "Shanghai'' over the Labor Day weekend and will instead open it "sometime in October,'' says THR's Steven Zeitchik, who alludes to the studio's ongoing financial woes. If "Shanghai,'' starring John Cusack and Gong Li opened on the very crowded Sept. 5 weekend, it would have been going head to head with four other planned wide releases -- Fox's "All About Steve,'' Lionsgate's "Gamer,'' Overture's "Pandorum'' and Paramount Vantage's "Carriers.'' Not to mention the second weekend of TWC's own "H2'' (Rob Zombie's "Halloween'' reboot sequel) and the third weekend of TWC's "Inglourious Basterds.'' Those titles are supposedly staying put. at least for now. I have a feeling the heavily-subtitled "Basterds'' will move if TWC decides to relaunch the much-rumored reedited version of Quentin Tarantino's epic, which was tepidly received in Cannes, at the Venice and Cannes festivals. If that happens, it's altogether possible at least one of those fests will also accept "Shanghai'' (which was briefly on the ever-changing TWC schedule for last December) as part of the deal.

Lately there has been a rumor that All Good Things release date might be pushed back to the fall. It seems the rumor may be correct, according to this article.
There's some speculation going around that Jeff will be appearing in the movie adaptation of Big Stone Gap, a novel by Adriana Trigiani. At this point it's just a rumor though. As soon as some real news comes in I'll let you know.

First Trailer for Taking Woodstock

The first trailer is out. I'm going to send you to the main site of JDMMs,

http://jeffreydeanmorgansmaniacs.org/id22.html

rather than the original site, http://movienews.ro/trailers/2009/04/30/taking-woodstock/ because the video is VERY slow loading, and it's a wee bit quicker on my site than it is on the original site, though neither version is dial-up friendly. ( So much so that of the 2 minutes and whatever odd seconds of the video, I have yet to see more than 30 seconds!) But the size and quality are very good, so to those with the patience....

Review of Days of Wrath

Days of Wrath
By ROBERT KOEHLER
Posted: Mon., Oct. 20, 2008
http://www.variety.com/review/VE1117938769.html?u=IMDB&p=H2BE&cs=1

Note- This review was written after Days of Wrath's world premier at the Los Angeles Latino Film Festival in September of 2008. As far as I know it still hasn't been picked up for distribution.

A Distributor and Production Co. presentation of a Foxy Films production. Produced by Celia Fox, Michael D. Schultz, Marie Cantin. Co-producers, Christine Sheaks, David L. Snyder. Directed by Celia Fox. Screenplay, Mitchell Kapner, Michael Markee, based on a screenplay by Fox.

With: Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Wilmer Valderrama, Ana Claudia Talancon, Jesse Garcia, Amber Valletta, Lupe Ontiveros, Ricardo Antonio Chavira, Faizon Love, David Banner, Kurupt, Doug Hutchison, Shahine Ezell, Brandon T. Jackson, Taye Diggs, Laurence Fishburne.
(English, Spanish dialogue)

A vicious cycle of revenge overwhelms a brewing black-vs.-Latino gang war in "Days of Wrath," a full-bore genre item from director Celia Fox that should prove a reusable calling card for the Hollywood mainstream. Industry observers should note that, for little scratch, Fox and crew have produced an uncommonly slick gang-banger with a well-cast troupe of mostly young Latino and African-American thesp talent. Pages torn from the playbooks of both John Woo and John Singleton make this a familiar 'hood item that should draw more than average indie distrib interest for theatrical and vid.

In a Los Angeles street jungle plagued by thugs with guns, Danny Boy (Wilmer Valderrama) is a predator without conscience, and his senseless violence sets bad things in motion. His gang attack on a hip-hop star (Faizon Love) ends up killing the mother of fellow gang leader/chop-shop owner Mario (Jesse Garcia); the victim is also the former g.f. of local TV station manager Byron (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).

Byron's other link to the gang life is through his ambitious young reporter, Samantha (Ana Claudia Talancon), who walked away from her gang allegiances a few years ago. (An awkward early scene intros Samantha lecturing high school kids about gangs with teacher Laurence Fishburne, in a cameo, lecturing even harder.) Looking on all these folks with disdain is Anita (Lupe Ontiveros, in an oh-so-colorful turn), who considers grandson Mario a failure and hates Byron, who turns out to be Mario's birth dad.

The interesting hook in Mitchell Kapner and Michael Markee's screenplay (credited as being based on Fox's screenplay) is that the usual gang-on-gang dynamic is abandoned for a bloody kind of gang unity -- all for one against Danny Boy. Early on, the question is who will get to Danny Boy first. Later, after Danny Boy proves to be fairly brilliant, elusive and utterly fearless, the question becomes: How is this guy still alive?

Amid typical setups and dialogue scenes, the requisite quota of T&A, and an unconvincing side plot involving Samantha's rivalry with a news anchor (Amber Valletta), "Days of Wrath" is built on a set of interlocking narrative gears that Fox allows to play out at full length. Even pistol-packin' granny Anita gets her piece of revenge in a delicious neo-Hitchcockian scene, and Danny Boy gets his just desserts on a scale worthy of Scorsese.

Christine Sheaks' casting, down to tiny roles, is generally spot-on, while the bigger roles held down by Morgan, Garcia and especially the impressive Valderrama, in a jet-black performance, are delivered with aplomb. Talancon, however, can't begin to suggest the former gang chick under Samantha's fresh makeover. Supporting standouts include Ontiveros; David Banner and Doug Hutchison as crime bosses; and a stunning Tasia Sherel as the tart-tongued mom of a son felled by Danny Boy. Taye Diggs, as a vet journo, seems to be in another movie.

Production package is certainly the film's neatest trick, with Steven Fierberg's widescreen lensing and David L. Snyder's production design creating a sheen more common in larger-scale studio fare.

Taking Woodstock at Cannes

Ang Lee's Taking Woodstock to Debut at Cannes Film Festival

Ang Lee's film Taking Woodstock, a big-screen adaptation of the memoir of Elliot Tiber, who played a role in helping the historic 1969 music fest unfold on his neighbor's farm, will make its world debut in competition at this year's Cannes Film Festival in May, before officially opening in the United States on August 14.

Demetri Martin will play Tiber, an aspiring interior designer in Greenwich Village obliged to run a Catskills motel; Imelda Staunton and Henry Goodman will play Tiber's parents; Jonathan Groff will play Woodstock organizer Michael Lang; Emile Hirsch will play a recently returned Vietnam vet, Eugene Levy will play farmer Max Yasgur, Liev Schrieber will play a transvestite named Vilma; Paul Dano and Zoe Kazan will play a hippie couple attending the concert; Dan Fogler will play a local theater troupe head; and Mamie Gummer will play Lang's assistant.

Lee won the Oscar for Brokeback Mountain and has directed such films as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

Note- As you can tell, Jeff's role in this film is quite small.

The Resident shoots in New Mexico

Hammer Films to shoot Swank picture in NM
Friday, April 24, 2009
Read the full article here:
http://www.bizjournals.com/albuquerque/stories/2009/04/20/daily64.html

Legendary British horror film company Hammer Films will shoot a movie starring Hilary Swank in New Mexico.

“Invasion of Privacy” is a suspense thriller with a second working title of “The Resident.” Hammer is producing the film for its parent company, Exclusive Media Group. A distribution deal is in place with Exclusive Film Distribution.

The production also stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan from “The Watchmen” and “P.S. I Love You.” It will film in and around Albuquerque from May 26 to July 17. The majority of the filming will be done at Albuquerque Studios.

True to Hammer form, the story line is designed to inspire fear and anxiety. This time, it’s geared toward single women who live alone.

A release from Gov. Bill Richardson’s office says the movie is inspired by “the fact that every year, millions of single women in America move into apartments for the first time. They do not know who lived in the apartment before them, they do not know their landlords and they don’t bother to change their locks. This is the story of one such woman.”

Jeffrey Dean Morgan Shanghai "mini review"

As was metioned a little while ago, there was an advanced screening of Shanghai in NYC on March 19th,

IMDb user gg6471-1 posted a fairly extensive review. You can read the whole thing here.
http://pro.imdb.com/title/tt1092634/boar....4&p=1#133503894

I took this excerpt because this is where it talks about Jeff's role.

Obviously, spoilers.

"The plot was hard for me to follow, especially since going in I didn’t know anything about the movie. From what I have gathered, the plot is a WW2 drama. It takes place right before America joins the war and Japan attacks China and Pearl Harbor. John Cusack and Jeffery Dean Morgan are spies for America in Shanghai trying to figure out what Japan is doing there and what's going on with the war. (I didn't figure out that they were spies until the end of the movie). John Cusack's cover up is a journalist, and throughout the movie he kicks a lot of ass. I was shocked because I didn't think a journalist could be so bad ass, and then I found out he was actually a spy and it made a little more sense. Anyways, Morgan gets involved with the Japan's army commander's mistress and gets wind of attack plans on Pearl Harbor. He passes it on to Cusack who tries to gather enough evidence to prove it to his superiors so that they can be prepared for an attack on Pearl Harbor. He gets involved with the Mafia leader played by Yun-Fat Chow, and his wife played by Li Gong and together/secretly/behind backs figure out what Japan and Germany are up too."

Jeffrey Dean Morgan as John and YED

This short little vid has been around since, oh, I guess the end of Supernatural season one, before season two started. Since it's so old, you may have missed it.

Now I have a very soft spot in my heart for John Winchester, and "Dead Man's Blood" and "Devil's Trap" are my two favorite John episodes, so when I came across this again this evening, I HAD to share....

I just wish it wasn't SO dark.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan and The Losers

Jeff is still in negotiations to do The Losers, after he does The Resident with Hillary Swank. The deal isn't 100% yet, as reported here:
http://www.iesb.net/index.php?option=com....16&article=6414

“It’s a project that we are in negotiations with right now,” said Morgan. “Certainly I’m hoping that everything works out and I’ll be in Puerto Rico shooting that thing in a couple of months.”

I, however am going to stick my ingers in my ears, and Hum Very Loudly, because I'd love to see Jeff in this movie.

So, to fed my curiosity I went looking, and found the first issue in pdf format. Here 'tis! Hope you enjoy!: http://www.dccomics.com/media/excerpts/1687_1.pdf

This is what I call a movie review!

It's a long one, so I'm going to just put a couple of excerpts here.

The Motion/Captured Review: 'Watchmen'
Posted by Drew McWeeny
http://www.hitfix.com/blogs/2008-12-6-mo....review-watchmen

The second viewing, I was over the shock. I sat down to watch it as a movie, as something that has to live on its own now, something that has to play for noobs and the faithful alike. And taken on its own, Zack Snyder's "Watchmen" is a profound work of art, a beautiful, deliriously weird, meditative spin on a genre that is as American as jazz. It is adult, sober-minded entertainment, visually ravishing and loaded with more ideas with a typical Oscar-season, and even when it doesn't work (one element in particular falls flat, and I'll get into that below), the ambition and the density of it is breathtaking. "Watchmen" will not be the sort of commerical juggernaut that "The Dark Knight" was, but it's a stealth weapon. You'll be feeling the ripples from this one for years to come, and I have no doubt this is ground zero for a wave of filmmakers-to-be who will one day cite this as the moment they realized what they wanted to do with their lives. Although this may not be the comparison Warner's accountants want to hear, I'd say that this is the closest thing to a "Blade Runner" I've seen in recent memory. It's a film that confounds mainstream expectation by design, a film that works as both text and meta-text, and one of the strangest things I've ever seen a major studio release.

~*~*~

And, amazingly, it works as a movie. It has its own rhythm, taking its time to lay out this complicated story, but it constantly delights with details both small and grand, and the cumulative impact is far more emotional than I would have expected. This isn't a case of a film being "good enough," and I'm not "just glad there's some version of it finally." It is a triumph, a movie that amazes on its own terms, and a major jump forward for Snyder as a filmmaker.

Watchmen
by Amy Nicholson

Love it or hate it, Watchmen is worth seeing

Captain America punched Hitler on a comic book cover. Superman threatened the Fuhrer with a "strictly non-Aryan sock on your jaw." That's as safely political as our spandex heroes get, which is why it's a shock here to see Dr. Manhattan (Billy Crudup) and the Comedian (Jeffrey Dean Morgan, a charmer, here meaty and lethal) lay waste to a field of Viet Cong, incinerating and blasting them one terrified fighter at a time. Audiences will flock to this cynical juggernaut—some to love it, some to try to hate it—and all will leave feeling they've had An Experience.

INTERVIEW WITH WATCHMEN ACTORS MALIN AKERMAN AND JEFFREY DEAN MORGAN
Written by Matthew Pejkovic

A couple of weeks back, I was fortunate enough to interview actors Malin Akerman and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who were in Sydney to promote their new film, the ambitious comic book adaptation, Watchmen.

Regardless of my being the last interviewee of a 12 hour day filled with countless interviews and media appearances, both Akerman and Morgan were a courteous and extremely down to earth pair, who were more than happy to chat about the themes and controversies surrounding their new film.

Zach Snyder Impresses

From CHUD's Devin Faraci

EXCLUSIVE VIDEO INTERVIEW: ZACK SNYDER (WATCHMEN)
See the video here: http://chud.com/articles/articles/18232/1/EXCLUSIVE-VIDEO-INTERVIEW-ZACK-SNYDER-WATCHMEN/Page1.html

Zack Snyder isn't who you think he is. He's not the slomo-loving frat boy. He's not the guy making Watchmen into a dumb action movie. He's not the guy caught up in the surface aspects of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' graphic novel, missing everything else underneath.

Zack Snyder is the guy who did what I thought was totally impossible: he made Watchmen into a movie that is remarkably faithful to the book - in tone, theme, character and incident - while also making it his own movie. The only people who could question whether or not Snyder 'got' the material are the people who haven't seen the movie, a movie that is an awe-inspiring achievement that will forever change the way people look at Zack Snyder and his films. The idea that he's just a guy who does speed ramping is blown away forever; the thought that the 'visionary' tag Warner Bros is using on all their advertising is hyperbole disappears.

I sat down with Zack this morning. This is what we talked about. There are spoilers for those who have not read the book.

The Losers character info

From Wikipedia, here are character sketches of the major players. Read the rest of the article here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Losers_(Vertigo)

Warning for spoilers-

* Clay - The Leader, easily identified by a consistent use of black suits without ties. Commonly referred to as 'the Colonel,' perhaps alluding to his rank prior to the team's "death." A meticulous planner, initiative-taker and an excellent leader, Clay harbors the largest grudge against Max, at times appearing visibly angry at the mention of his name.

....like this look, or a touch more 'military' perhaps? This pic is from Days of Wrath.

* Roque - The second-in-command, easily identified by the large, vertical scar down the right side of his face and icy demeanor. His ruthless thirst for money motivates a majority of his actions, including the serial betrayal of the Losers and many of his underlings.
* Jensen - The hacker, characterized by his spiky blonde hair, glasses and a conspicuous beard on his chin. Known for his nonstop motormouth that often leads him into trouble and a variety of conversational tangents.
* Cougar - The sniper, identified by his cowboy hat and haunted demeanor. Morose and laconic as a result of a traumatic combat incident in Afghanistan. An absolute genius with the rifle.
* Pooch - The pilot, identifiable by his shaved head and laid-back appearance, has been known to pilot any ground, air or sea vehicle with ease. Despite his involvement with the CIA and Special Forces, is also married with children.
* Aisha - The loose cannon, identified by her eyebrow piercing and tied-back hair. Partners with the Losers in light of their common goal of killing Max. Skilled in all combat skills, with particular emphasis on melee and reconnaissance, stemming from a harsh upbringing in Afghanistan and Pakistan, primarily fighitng as a child against Soviet soldiers during the Soviet war in Afghanistan. A cold-blooded killer who prefers to leave corpses rather than survivors when she engages the enemy.
* Max - An enigmatic man wielding unprecedented, covert influence over various governmental and military institutions. Organized the assassination of Aisha's father, a slave trader and local warlord, and the subsequent "accident" of the Losers when they went off-mission. Although the current Max enjoys substantial influence over the CIA and infamy throughout the Black Ops community, the "Max" codename predates the CIA itself by several years.
* Robert Sanderson - Deputy Director of Operations, CIA. Originally assigned to negotiate with the Losers during an intense standoff, Sanderson comes to realize the true motives and identity of Max, whom he initially regards as an expired decoy identity "used to lure enemy agents out of hiding." Sanderson recruits Marvin Stegler to conduct a clandestine intra-Agency investigation of the MAX identity.
* Marvin Stegler - A veteran CIA agent who as of late has been relegated to desk work. Although initially ordered to investigate the Max identity, Stegler frequently crosses paths with the Losers and comes to offer Agency support to them after he stops receiving orders from Sanderson.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan's addition to cast "creates buzz"

‘The Losers’ Adds ‘Watchmen’ Actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan To Cast

Jeffrey Dean Morgan in 'Watchmen'Back in November, we brought you the news that Sylvain White was bringing the DC/Vertigo series “The Losers” to the big screen. White’s deal didn’t cause a lot of buzz at the time, and the trades were confused as to whether it was the 1970s DC series, or the 2004 DC/Vertigo series that was being adapted. Late last year, producer Joel Silver seemed unsure as to when or if the film would really take off, noting that “The Losers” faced competition from a remake of “The Dirty Dozen.”

Look for the buzz to change now, as Variety reports that Jeffrey Dean Morgan has signed on to star as the head “Loser” for Warner Bros. And the film is indeed based on the 2004 “reimagining” series by DC/Vertigo, according to the report.

“The Losers” centered on a Special Forces team who were betrayed by their C.I.A. handler, Max. The team (nicknamed The Losers) is left for dead following a mission, and after a narrow escape, they vow revenge. They dodge C.I.A. plots, attempt to get their name off the secret “death list,” and uncover more of Max’s shocking plots and conspiracies that extend throughout the U.S. government.

It hasn’t been announced what “Loser” Morgan will play* or how closely the film will follow the books, but we’re going to guess he’s playing Clay, The Leader. Not only is he the man with all the initiative, but he hates Max more than anyone else. A good choice for the former Comedian — can we now assume that “Watchmen” and “The Losers” has made Morgan a DC fan?

*This story was pretty much all OVER the net yesterday, and most other sources claim that Jeff's role IS "Clay".

Jeffrey Dean Morgan on fire!

Watchmen's Comedian Almost Perished In Flames
By Meredith Woerner, 8:00 AM on Fri Feb 20 2009
http://io9.com/5157070/watchmens-comedian-almost-perished-in-flames

Where the Comedian goes, murder and mayhem follow close behind. So it's only right that the actor portraying this masked sadist, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, almost set himself and the entire Watchmen set ablaze.

We talked to Morgan about his work on Watchmen, and here's what he had to say.

How did you like The Comedian's costume?

It was hard to move in, it was hard to get into, [and] it was hard to get out of. But that being said, when I got in it and stuck a cigar in my mouth... yeah... I wanted to kill people right away.

Did you have previous experience with weapons?

I got to go to the firing range quite a few times. It was a blast. I loved that part of it... There was a flame thrower range in the warehouse, that was a trip... The day that I did the scene where I have to keep the flame on this guy for ten seconds, do a ten count in your head, which is an exceedingly long time to pointing a flame thrower at some guy who has a little gel on him. You're just nailing him with these flames, and I kept pulling up early. I thought I'm going to really hurt this guy and I can't deal with that. And Zack's like, "Do it again man, and you're enjoying this too."

I kept having to redo it because I was pulled up. And I'm smiling and having my little moment but, so finally the last time I did it, I held it on this guy, but in the mean time I'd done it so many times that the rice paddy had been covered with gasoline from shooting this thing. So I'm burning this guy up and I do it and I'm like, "yeah you fucking bastard," and I look down and there's flames coming at me, and it comes right up my leg and there's no one near me. I'm in the middle of a rice paddy. And I look up and I see Zack and his eyes are this big [makes big circles over his eyes] and all I can think is "I can't ruin the costume."

The guys did so much work on the costume and I thought I'm just going to have to put it out myself. It was a nightmare [laughs]. They're imperfect heroes. I kept the cigar lit the whole time, I just sucking on that.

Jackie Earle Haley (Rorschach) interrupts:
Rorschach would have been like "27, 28..." [Laughs]

Was it difficult for you taking on the role of this character? Did you go method with it a little?

I'm not a method actor. I always take kind of pride in the fact that when it's time to turn it on, you turn it on, and when it's time to go home at night, you know walk your dog and enjoy your life. But there are a couple of things that I do - that The Comedian does - that certainly wasn't easy to walk away from. They certainly stuck with me. There were a couple sleepless nights. Filming this was a lot harder than I ever anticipated when I first got the role.

It was a lot harder, and Jack [Earle Haley] said something earlier about being isolated. I did the same. We both sort of isolated ourselves from everybody while we were shooting this. It seemed to make more sense in the process. It was a long shoot. It was a great shoot and I loved it, and I loved playing this guy, but the day I got to go home and be rid of him, was not bad. I was tired.

Watchmen will be in theaters on March 6.

And yes, there are lots of spoilers.

Watchmen: Who's Watching The Watchmen?

From the moment we see The Comedian's blood streak across his seventies Happy Face button, we know that the movie version of Watchmen and its caretakers were going to be as respectful as possible to the vision of the original comic miniseries. Based on one of the most collected and memorable comic book runs in history, the movie Watchmen tries to be all things cosmic and ambiguously moral to all of us unactualized and imperfect people, and it succeeds on most fronts. But unlike the thought-provoking Alan Moore, Dave Gibbons, and John Higgins 1986 creation that demanded one's imagination stretch beyond a page of panels, this thoroughly-engaging incarnation of Warner's DC Comics property attempts to achieve that level of examination through a more stylized, literal approach.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan as a LOSER?

WATCHMEN's Jeffrey Dean Morgan is a LOSER

Jeffrey Dean Morgan hot off his turn as The Comedian in Zack Snyder's WATCHMEN, is in negotiations to sign onto THE LOSERS from WB.
The Hollywood Reporter had the news, The "Watchmen" star is in negotiations to board another comic book project, "The Losers," from Warner Bros. and Silver Pictures.

Sylvain White is directing the adaptation of the Vertigo book, which follows a special forces team betrayed by their handler and left for dead. The Losers regroup in the interest of revenge and the opportunity to remove their names from a secret CIA death list and to conduct covert operations against the CIA and its interests.

Morgan would play Clay, the group's leader, whose signature look favors black suits without ties.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan on playing The Comedian

Interview: Watchmen's Comedian - Jeffrey Dean Morgan
February 19, 2009
by Alex Billington

Jeffrey Dean Morgan as The Comedian

Of all the people involved in Watchmen, the one actor I really wanted to interview was Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays The Comedian. Not only is he a great guy in person (I've met him before), but his character is one of the darkest and most complex in the entire movie. Yesterday afternoon I sat down with him to talk about Watchmen and what it's like being a part of something so incredible. And because we're all very excited about Watchmen, I thought I'd put up my video interview for your viewing pleasure. Be careful, this isn't exactly spoiler free, but it should be a fascinating interview to watch - at least I think so!

For those who haven't read the graphic novel, The Comedian might possibly be the most conflicted character of the story. There is a lot of insight to be gained from this interview after having seen the movie as well, primarily because you'll understand his take on the character so much more. I hope you enjoy!

There's a bit more from Alex after the interview, which you can read here:

Black Freighter cover art

Cover Art For Watchmen's Black Freighter
By Rafe Telsch: 2009-01-31 05:21:11
http://www.cinemablend.com/dvdnews/Cover....hter-14928.html

Warner Brothers has released the cover art and more details for its Watchmen DVD tie-in, the adaptation of the comic-within-the-comic, Tales of the Black Freighter. Interestingly, the Gerard Butler voiced animated tale won’t be the only thing on the DVD. We’ll also be treated to Under the Hood, Hollis Mason’s look at how the costumed crusaders came into being. The second story will be a mix of live-action and CG and will feature the major players from the movie.

Tales of the Black Freighter will be available on both DVD and Blu-ray, and I have to say Blu-ray will be the better deal here. With both formats you get “Story Within a Story: The Books of the Watchmen,” which looks at the two shorts on the DVD and how they tie in with the movie. You also get a sneak peek at the “Watchmen Motion Comic” (chapter 1) and a “First Look” at the upcoming Green Lantern DVD. But Blu-ray purchasers also get a deleted scene from the Watchmen movie titled “The Two Bernies” and an additional featurette: “The ‘Why’ of the Watchmen,” which features director Zack Snyder. If you’re a hardcore Watchmen fan (and you probably are if you’re picking this up) those sound a lot more interesting than a first look at Green Lantern.

Check out a high resolution version of the cover art below. Tales of the Black Freighter will be in stores on March 24th.

A spokesperson from Supernatural confirmed that the show's director and executive producer Kim Manners passed away Sunday in Los Angeles due to complications from lung cancer.

Supernatural creator Eric Kripke released a statement saying, "Everyone at Supernatural is walking around in a daze, shocked and absolutely devastated. Kim was a brilliant director; more than that, he was a mentor and friend. He was one of the patriarchs of the family, and we miss him desperately. LOS ANGELES -- It's not a ghost on "Grey's Anatomy."

This news comes from Steve McPherson, president of ABC Entertainment.

Fans have wondered what's going on between Izzie (Katherine Heigl) and dead Denny (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). Some viewers have complained the show has gone off the rails. McPherson defended the work of series creator Shonda Rhimes.

"When you get to end of the season, you see everything she had in mind," McPherson said. "It might not be your cup of tea, but I think you'll be surprised at how insightful and actually smart the story line itself is."

Watchmen Suit Settled

From: http://blogs.indystar.com/geek/2009/01/watchmen_suit_s.html

Feathers were ruffled, sabres were rattled, but this ending surprises absolutely no one.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. and Fox have reached a settlement in Fox's lawsuit over the distribution rights for the movie adaptation of 'Watchmen.' The movie will arrive on its originally announced release date of March 6.

With Warners reportedly giving cash and a percentage of the gross to Fox, all that's left is for both parties to take this to the judge tomorrow (Friday) and have him sign off on it. The details of the settlement will remain private -- Boooo! -- but considering the very public nature of the spat, you can count on them leaking out at some point.
